I would recommend starting with Fire Red then playing Emerald.
After that play Platinum then HGSS.
After that just follow the release order

If you're honestly new to the series, just start with XY or wait until SM. You're a very different demographic to /vp/ and our advice will probably suck having considered that.

If this is actually just a thread where we tell you our favourites while pretending to be objective, I like BW/B2W2 the most reeeeee.

i recommend this list to every newcomer.Skip Gen 1 and 2 entirely, you won't miss anything if you play these in order
-Start with FireRed or LeafGreen (remakes of the originals, far superior in every way. Don't let the nostalgia fags tell you otherwise)
-Emerald (Ruby/Sapphire done right)
-HeartGold/SoulSilver (remakes of Gold/Silver)
-Platinum (Diamond/Pearl done right)
-Black/White
-Black2/White2 (for consistancy, play black 2 if you played black and white 2 if you played white)
-X/Y
-OmegaRuby/AlphaSapphire (Optional, assumin gyou already played Emerald. You wouldn't be missing out on much besides new megas.)
