To be fair, Torterra is a jobber that makes sense. Cool as shit Pokemon, looks ferocious, can hit hard, great tank stats, GRASS/GROUND WEAK TO EVERYTHING typing. Torterra jobs ingame, not just in anime.

Agreed. Ash's moveset on Grennja was pretty awful. Double Team never does anything of note and is just there because of Naruto. Cut is there to look like a ninja's sword but night slash could do the same. Aerial Ace gives type coverage but isn't very powerful. Water Shuriken is shit, but gotta push the ninjaness.
