Even in the pics in the op he's balling like a child but by the time he loses this fight he's smiling and having fun, with no salt or hard feelings. Its like the loss barely even effected him.
If we look at this thematically, it comes to mean that you WILL fail because everyone fails and you WILL lose, maybe even constantly, but dont be a bitch about it. Because ultimately Ash IS doing what he wants, which is battling and competing. If ash gave up and decided to be a professor or some shit, then yeah the series would be pretty screwed up.
As it stands the anime is teaching kids the sort of cynical message of "yeah you're going to lose, life is full of failures. Take it on the chin. This fucker NEVER wins but he'll be back next season." Although, in the end, i really think they should have made him win because if nothing else the anime is beyond stale at this point.
