>>27890412Losing the first league was actually interesting when it happened. He failed as a trainer, he was naive and over confident. He wasnt ready. That is acceptable, as far as story telling goes, for a first arc of a hero, he should fail before he succeeds.
He could have maybe come in a close 4th or 2nd in Johto, showing major improvement, but up against better trainers. He finally earns the respect of the pokemin world, and dedicates himself to trying harder. He goes on to win a lower league, the orange islands, which is an achievement, but not as great.
He finally wins in Hoenn, releasing the tension that has built up, showing he is finally a pokemon master, and a champion. Hard work and dedication pay off, even if you fail you can come back and succeed. Great story arc, good story telling.
Then he loses again in Sinnoh because Tobias is a cheater (not technically, but using legendaries is like usign Steroids).
Then he comes back and wins in Unova and is vindicated over cheaters like Tobias.
