I don't watch the anime, so maybe I'm wrong, but doesn't it have a chance to be good and refreshing?

The games themselves don't have gym leaders anymore and I'm guessing the E4 won't be the same thing either. So maybe the reason was Ash didn't win beause in Alola he can assemble his own league and have a better chance at winning?

Outside of Serena's growth and the shota/ash fight nothing about XY really struck me as far better than best wishes.

The one thing it had going for it was this season long buildup that seemed to lean towards Ash winning the league, but we saw how that turned out today.

At least after the shitty BW league I had nice tournament arcs to look back on as a defining trait of the series, with XY its all Greninja buildup that sticks out
