i don't support either ash or alain and i'm fine with either winning but lets get some things straight
>was the chance for ash to win big? yes, 20 years anniversary, already lost twice to alain, special snowflake powerup, best team on paper so far, next region has no gyms, etc
>but could alain win? any things that pointed to him being able to win?yes, better/more hardcore trainer as shown in mega evolution specials, fighting for loli's pokemon, etc
>are there any factors working against ash outside of alain?yes, he has never won a league by tradition so he could continue his journey and be a master, executive meddling, too many victory flags, etc
before the episode i'd have given it 80/20 to ash despite alain being the better trainer since it'd just feel "right" (as evidenced by the fucking huge outburst we have now) if ash won. but would i be buttblasted if alain won? no, because there was a real chance from the start that he could win unlike shota/sawyer who was a clear follower of ash with less exp/skill and hence doomed from the onset. maybe if people opened their eyes wider and didn't hinge hugefuck expectations without some semblance of doubt they wouldn't be so self-righteously mad now
