Instead of repeatedly failing he set himself up to literally be the next Professor Oak. Meanwhile Ash will fade into obscurity and will only be remembered by the pokemon he, ironically, leaves with Gary as he goes on to whatever region is next. Neither will ever be a champion but at least Gary came to that conclusion and moved on.

Canonically they had Zekrom/Reshiram which is confirmed to solo the E4+Champ, but in ORAS protag gets Rayquaza, mega at that, so

Game canon is not the same as anime canon and even if they were, that means 14 trainers + E4 + champions + the few people who got higher than him in the different leagues are better then him. There's billions of people in the pokemon world.

Anon it's literally required for the BW protags to capture the legendaries and then went off on said legendary to search for N.
That's why the other legendary doesn't appear at all in Black and White 2.
