this. he is awful competitively. lots of non flyers can have a sneaky aerial ace in their line-up. cant get more than one layer of spikes down before he is hurtin' and forced to either switch or use spiky shield.

Did not take long for me to swap him out for Ferrothorn.

but other than that, its a TOP final evo for a starter; good aesthetics, good in-game, fun signature move.
One strange thing about this pokemon, for me, is that I see them as girls, because mine was a girl in my Y playthrough. Nicknamed Lucina.

I like it but I wish they made it Grass/Steel type
Chesnaught's current design doesn't fit fighting or steel as is; I feel like the designer got caught wanting it to fulfill the a knightly design but was supposed to make it fighting type to make a better triangle with the other starters so Chesnaught ended up half fighting and half steel. Which unfortunately is pretty confusing and results in a messy final design, there was a great Pokemon to be made here; I honestly feel sorry for Chesnaught but I like it more than most Grass starters anyway

I picked Chespin when I first saw Chesnaught and I wasn't disappointed, it remained on my main team throughout the game and post-game

the only thing I didn't like about him was the terrible wood hammer animation

Nah it's great, you're just not using it right.

It walls EdgeQuake i.e. Exca, Ttar, Hippo, Chomp, Lando-T. It walls Ferro. It can check Azu since it takes under 50% from +6 Aqua Jet. It walls things that are generally threats like Bisharp and Crawdaunt. It has reliable recovery. And it's a Spike setter.

It does a lot.

It's ingame model does it no justice. That hunched over pose looks horrible compared to fan art...and the shiny admittingly making more sense than it's regular color

Aside from the quad weakness to flying....none. He's a defensive powerhouse who is a lot more viable now that he has access to drain punch in ORAS. He's also a great Gengar counter thanks to his bulletproof ability and most of Gengars best moves are ball moves.
