Why isn't it a water type? Will it have an evo with a secondary water typing?

Coconut crabs are terrestrial and literally drown in water.

Malamar wasn't water either.

Im pretty sure Hawaii has species of crabs that live primarily on land and only go to the water during breeding. Either way it really has no reason to be a water type outside of being based on a semi aquatic animal, which has been proven time and time again, not to cement a typing. Malamar is a squid and it ended up being Dark/Psychic

Why does everything from the ocean need a be a water type? It's not like there's a severe lack for the most common type. I don't understand this complaint. The less obligatory water types the better.

Well the current trend was each Gen would introduce a unique typing for said pokemon.
There's still no Ice,Ghost,Dragon,Electric,Ground or Fairy dual type
