>>27945642I generally prefer the "simple/realistic" design style as you describe it. I won't lie by claiming I love every style of pokemon equally.
However, I don't necessarily want/expect later Pokemon gens to keep trying to blindly adhere to that style. Each gen usually has it's own sort of design style or "feel", and I like that. I don't always like the feel, and I definitely like the feel of some gens more than others, but if a gen isn't exhibiting its own feel, then it doesn't feel like a new generation, it feels like a rehash/continuation.
Maybe in the future, they will have a generation with pokemon that more closely adhere to real animals than any gen prior. Maybe one day they'll have a gen that is even goofier and cartoony than ever before. Maybe one day they will have a gen with a completely far out style we'd never expect. I am OK with all of these possibilities.
To use the burger analogy, even if you prefer burgers to sandwiches, better to have some variety with different types of burgers and sandwiches than to keep expecting to eat your favorite over and over again. Maybe one day, you'll find a new favorite you would have otherwise missed out on.
