None of the event pokemon, but otherwise yeah. You shouldn't have trouble trading to complete it. You can just breed a ton of Rotom and put them up on the GTS, they always end up being traded unless you're asking for trade evolutions. Then again, I once got an Electivire off someone.

It's a lot easier with GTS being a thing, but there will still be a few snags.
Do a few hours of Wondertrading to see what you can get for a start.
The box legendaries are needed, but the event pokemon like Mew, Arceus, Genesect, etc. aren't.
I have the shiny charm, but I lack Keldeo, Victini, and Meloetta.

If you have some legends to trade, it'll be easier.

Last night I couldn't sleep so I decided to continue MMing for a Vanillite, I got bored after maybe 7 eggs and tried finding one in a horde. I got it after 8 minutes. Given that I spent 21 hours trying to get a shiny hoppip to use replaying X, I'd say that was a successful hunt.

Caught a shiny female Cottonee, but it ended up with a Naughty nature(too bad Synchronize doesn't have higher odds). I'll try it this way for a little bit longer, but if I don't get a shiny female with a Timid, Hasty or Naive nature, I'll be switching to Masuda Method.

I just started with Kanto and went all they way through. Pushed stuff like the Gen IV crossgen Evos to the back though because they are retarded to get.
Otherwise it's not really hard. Put in a Starter or a Eevee in GTS and ask for the desired Pokemon. While waiting for someone to trade evolve the mons you need to evolve and catch the mons you can catch.
Shouldn't take more than 1 or 2 days to complete the dex
For legendaries just trade 1 for another. Always make sure to go back to a mainstream legendary because stuff like the Gen IV Elves are shit that nobody wants and can take forever to trade for another legendary.

Gen IV is really the hardest part about the Poledex
