>>27977352I like Greninja, even though I chose Chesnaught, but his level of "humanity" is very similar to Rowlet3.
-Both have mostly animal shapes, and the human elements of their physicaly appearance are minor. Rowlet3's long legs are absolutely in keeping with real Barn Owls
>>27978366 >>27978387 >>27978676-You metion that there are no human tools incorportated into Greninja's design. Again, none are overbearing, but it does have a tongue scarf and use Water Shurikens, though this isn't immediately apparent. Similarly, Rowlet3 has a hood, and it can launch arrows with a makeshift bow but this isn't clear unless it's seen in action.
-Rowlet3's overall appearance and posture are appropriate for an owl, a bipedal bird. It really does look like a Barn Owl in a hood. Obviously the feather fingers are not biologically believable, but that's a common design choice in cartoons. I don't demand exact evolutionary realism in my games.
-The "goggles" or "glasses" people are complaining about could just as well be markings as seen in other owl species like these
>>27978565 >>27978953In short, they definitely seem to be making starters somewhat more partner-like in recent gens. Starting with Hoenn, more humanoid designs became the norm. HOWEVER, I think Rowlet3 is an example of this choice done well. It still looks like an animal, but it's mildly anthropomorphized for players to seemingly relate to.
