Thinking about it shouldn't Squirtle have evolved to disobey Ash instead of Charmander? I mean Ash saved Charmander's life while Squirtle was a delinquent.

Did Squirtle ever mention not wanting to evolve? Bulbasaur and Pikachu made a big deal about not evolving and Charmander just did it, but Squirtle just stayed as a jobber until the Orange Islands. It's incredibly weak for being one of Ash's first Pokemon, even May's Squirtle evolved before it.

I mean, we do have sceptile that is already considered a pokemon that likes to be alone, but bayleef showed so much emotion due to its love for ash that I could totally agree with this

As for totodile, he was happy and jumpy. This is a noticeable personality traits, but I would say as much as sceptile

Oshawott seemed to always been angry with everyone, so I'll give you that

To be fair though I was mostly picking the starters that were clearly 'extroverts'. As i recall Quilava was shy at first but became stoic and calm once it evolved.

You're missing the point.

Ash's charmeleon stopped obeying him when it evolved because it belonged to another trainer and he didn't have enough badges to control it's constantly raising level. Ash's squirtle was just a wild Pokemon he caught.

That was the most idiotic plot point, and was clearly dropped since no other pokemon besides Ash's special snowflakes care about evolving or not. I mean look at every Pokemon Ash has had that evolved beyond Kanto, they never acted any different than their previous incarnations. It was just a stupid excuse to keep them small and cute and marketable

Wrong. Bulbasaur was the protector of a little village who chose to come with Ash after he proved his worth in a battle. You could argue that he belonged to the girl there, but I'm pretty sure that she never actually caught it and that it just chose to be there.

Squirtle was a Pokémon deserted by its trainer, though, as all Squirtles in the Squirtle Squad were.

I liked Bulbasaur not evolving. I think it went with his whole stubborn cynic personality. I understood Pikachu too.

But Squirtle really had no excuse. Nor did Pidgeotto need to stay in that form for the entire Kanto arc.

When he evolved he didn't attack Ash untill he fucking ordered a prideful battle hungry pokemon to lose to a fucking weak shitmon like paras.

He lost any respect for Ash there untill he reminded Charizard how he saved his life before.

Squirtle I think they just wanted to keep cute though. I guess an in universe reason would be that considering it was best friends with Bulbasaur, it had an influence on him and he never wanted to evolve because of that.
