I like Samurott, arguably my favorite Starter. But that in itself isn't big of a think since I feel neutral towards most of them.

Main complaints for me are how mediocre it is, his lack of a Fighting typing, his somewhat abysmal movepool and his Sp.Atk being higher than his Atk. His Hidden ability is also an issue. GF should change those up, or at least give it Shell Smash.

Its a mixed attacker if anything. An 8 point difference doesn't prevent it from being able to run physical moves or physical sets.

His spread should have been more like 100/100/80/70/70/100 to make him a decent pokemon though (not precise but you get the picture).

Unfortunately gf has to make starters have very even stat distributions so they're brainless to use and kids can't fuck up by putting special attacks on a starter with 40 sp. atk.

Good or not, it's such a huge design shift from Dewott, I don't think any other starter makes a leap like that. You can't blame some people for being completely turned off.

Actually, as much as I love Dewott I think some blame can be put on that design for not changing up the eyes and species when it could.
