Actually, I believe that "purple" is closer to the original coloring. If anything, Gen 2 is the one that shit the bed. That bold blue should have been the shiny.

That's actually my favorite Gastly sprite. I get it was changed immediately in the anime and then as a sprite in Yellow, but I was just never fond of the floating black orb in the purple gas. Something about just the face being on something very non-material made me love it way more.
