I think one of XY's biggest missteps is not giving the Kalos starters Megas. Why introduce a new mechanic and not give it to the three Pokemon each player is guaranteed?

But if they had given it to the Kalos starters, there'd have been no reason to give us the Kanto starters. They may as well have just given us the Kanto starters in the first place and not designed Furfox, Chestnut, and Smogonfrog.

Sure, but the way they picked which Pokémon would have a Mega is completely shit. Look, they said it's to balance the game, but I'm sure the first mons GF choose to give them a Mega Evolution were Lucario and the starters, just because they like to suck their dicks.

I'm glad Zoroark flopped as the "new Lucario". I wouldn't stand a new form for that shit.

You design a Mega for a Pokemon that already feels complete (Charixard, Tyranitar, etc.) by taking it over the top. You can't do that as effectively if you're designing both the Mega and the final form at the same time.

They didn't give a shit about the new starters which is why they tried to pander so hard with the gen one starters within like an hour or so of playtime. One of the reasons I can't hate the starters for xy is due to gamefreak being assholes to them lol
