The 'secret' is how they evolve, its different than all the other starter Pokemon in the main series games, but I can assure you that its nothing about that split evolution or form bullshit, just the 'secret' way they evolve.

Different forms per island is Oricorio's schtick, they're not going to give it to someone else in the same gen, and it wouldn't be much of a secret since we've already have a Pokemon that can do that

Different forme's per island isn't the same as a different evolution per island. I do think it's too much for the starters but I can see it for Rockruff or a different mon.

But since there's 4 islands and 4 starters if you include rockruff I think it has something to do with each island rather than time of day/night.

That doesn't make sense. It was specifically stated the starters and Rockruff have a secret and then it was revealed there is a whole poster dedicated to Rockruffs a secret Evolution. There will definitely be more that 1 maybe even 2 for,s for the starters and Rockruff
