It most likely pertains to the last of the game's 20 year long formula.
Which is off only due to a big Company making billions off of a product wouldn't likely "Fix what's not broken" risking revenue.
It means future games will change to be more in-depth or change aesthetically.
It may get more "edgy", or simply stop solely pandering to young children, the story will get better writing, the game play will be more engaging. Maybe even some redesigns or art directions to go in more developed progression.
