Repeating the same gameplay is pretty lame tbhonest, even if Platinum did improve on many aspects. I much prefer something like BW2 where you have a different adventure in a modified region. Pokemon Z could have been a sequel to XY.

Sequels are better. the only reason 3rd versions were a thing was because it was easy money and less development time for them with the game being popular enough. they pretty much realised after gen 4 that people figured it out, so they later made BW2.

Hoenn games are the games I'm least familiar with. I played through Ruby as a kid on an emulator once but that's it. Everyone talks about how good Emerald is, but what actually makes it better? Is it like Crystal where it just has more features or are the story and other events different?

The remake pandering is bullshit. They needed a Pokemon Z, with the full Zygarde plot, and Team Flare's storyline reworked. Hopefully, they would have learned, and given the Elite Four more than four pokemon and their signature Mega Evolutions.

There's 2 evil teams, but in RS it depended on the version who you faced, where in Emerald both of them are your enemies.

You can also catch all 3 main legendaries, unlike RS.

You fight both Aqua and Magma, but the story is still shit, you'd have to try ORAS if you'd like an actual story from Hoenn. It was the first game that added out of battle effects which have been part of the games since. Adds some more double battles also allows you all the box legendaries. Has the first battle frontier that's cool for like 20 minutes then just becomes a drag because there are only a few good battle modes there. Emerald is pretty overated but it is better than Ruby and Sapphire.

Unless you're talking about 3rd games, in which case it adds more than any of the other 3rd games did in the form of a new plot, several new map locations, in addition to the usual stuff like a new post-game battle facility, more pokemon from other gens, and more repeatable events.

Adding some new megas to ORAS didn't make it worth it either. Remakes need to go the way of 3rd versions. FRLG and HGSS were somewhat necessary because most of those pokemon were cut off from RSE with no workaround. ORAS was superfluous in this context and were largely unimpressive.

Yeah no, not only is Unova considerably more interesting from a visual standpoint it contains content that isn't an inferior version of the previous game.
On top of that it had a considerable amount of content over it as well as interesting lore related to the actual plot.

Probably this. Hell, XY had the lowest sales of any games that are first entries into the gen. In fairness though, the 3DS did have a MUCH smaller install base 3 years ago then the GB/GBA/DS had when they had their games release.

I'm still a little surprised we didn't get a third version, or sequels to it. With no remakes in gen 5, and then remakes with no third/sequel versions in gen 6, I'm anticipating getting either the third version or remakes in a gen, but not both. I'd expect a SM2, and then in gen 8 we'll get Sinnoh remakes.

And the Pike, Pyramid, Dome and Arena.
There's the Tower but that's been a series staple for a while now and the Palace but was kind of awkward to do without hacking.

In any case the Gen 3 frontier is probably the hardest of them all because perfect Pokemon are thrown at you while you're stuck with your in game team.
And the levels didn't scale up or down either so if you had a team over level 50 you would have to do the level 100 course.

Compared to Yellow they're leauges apart. Especially since the minigame was the only worth while thing it added while massively nerfing leaders.
Also Ice Path was redesigned as was the burned tower, Buena's password and the trainers that called were given individual personalities.

The pseudo-sequel style of B2W2 in the mono-game format of a third version would have been perfect. Two versions again with just minor changes (large compared to the traditional third version, but small compared to an actual new gen, of course) sucks. Had they made a Z, I would have liked for it to have all the third-game standbys on top of actually being a sort of sequel.

Sorry but it never made sense for Aqua to have that base because the whole reason it was there was to store the sub.
As a team of water users they shouldn't need it.

Not really, it makes sense for them to own a submarine pen (where else do you put a wailord?) and use the Explorer 1 to go down to the Seafloor Cavern because it's deep as fuck and they likely had stuff they needed to bring with them in order to explore it and find Kyogre. You don't need a sub because they've already blasted their way in to the chamber with Kyogre, and you're just following along behind to kick their shit in.

Didn't you just say it's deep and that's why they required the sub? Why is the player suddenly immune to pressure?
