I legit love playing Voltorb Flip and I actually prefer it to the slots since you can swing the odds in your favor and get big gains. I'd just learn the game 2bh. Natures don't matter too much in Singleplayer, but for your Gyarados an Adamant or Jolly nature would be best. The first boosts attack and lowers special attack, while the latter boosts speed and lowers special attack. If you want a mixed attacker then a Quiet nature may be better. It buffs Special Attack and lowers speed.

Nah, I think it's because a bit of steel type evolutions in Gen 2 evolved with a metal coat so maybe you got it confused? Also I was wrong, as it evolves at level 31.
