I hadn't played gen 1 until recently and had way more fun than I ever had with Firered/Leafgreen. The goofyness of the sprites makes them interesting, they're always doing some crazy weird pose or motion that makes them fun to look at despite looking retarded in a traditional sense. It also feels more complete than any other pokemon game purely on the basis that there's no stupid bullshit about transferring from other gens to complete the dex. You can almost fill it completely just by catching and evolving pokemon as you progress through the game, without needing to backtrack much. The game is designed around catching 'em all, which isn't true in the newer games.
Gen 1 isn't even my favorite in the franchise, but now that I've played through it and had a genuinely good time, it irks me that a ton of people on this board shit all over the game that started it all. All the porn, hype, forums and shitposts is thanks to R/B/Y. Surely you can switch your autism off for a moment to at least understand why some people might like it
