"Sapphire" is not a character that exists in the games. Her name is May. Sapphire is just the counterpart in the Manga series, because the Manga is fucking retarded and insisted on keeping the character names based on the names of the games. (Yes even fucking Black 2 and Whit 2)
Her name is May whether you are playing as her, or not. Neither May or Brendan has been confirmed as the Canon Protagonist.
And the other anon is right, May is (contrary to popular belief) not a tomboy at all. She dresses up in a frilly pink costume and dances around in contests for goodness sakes.
