So I've been wondering who Gold would have on his team if he were to have a Gen 2-esque post game fight (like Red from GSC).
Most people's knee-jerk reaction is to start off by saying he'd have all three starters, but i dsagree. Red had them because in Yellow, you start with Pikachu, and acquire the other three through in-game events. This doesn't happen in any Johto games, so he'd only have one starter, and think everyone can agree itd be Typhlosion.
The next four are pretty easy: Togepi egg you get from Elm, Eevee you get from Bill (probably evolves into Ubreon because Gen 2, Red had Espeon, and even if he didn't, Umbreon is just more iconic), Sudowoodo because it fiils the Snorlax niche, and of course Red Gyarados because of how iconic that part of the story is.
So i wanna know who yall think his las mon would be. I really don't want to say Suicune because adding legendaries just kinda ruins the integrity of the team, and once you add one, who's to stop you from adding Ho-oh and Lugia, and why didn't Red have Mewtwo, etc..
As much as I'd love to give him Tyranitar, i think we should stick to pokemon that aren't just random walking encounters.
So i've narrowed it down to the Shuckle you get from the collector (garbage), the Tyrougue you get from Mt. Mortar (evolve into hitmontop, pretty good option), Herracross or Aipom/Ambipom you get from headbutting specific trees (very iconic but arguably not "events") and Scyther caught in the bug catching contest, and evolved into Scizor (my personal favorite, but also subject to the same criticism as Heracross and Aipom
