It's not realistic logic, but it always follows its own internal logic. As long as it makes some amount of sense, like pic related (one of my favorite examples), then it looks great.

Pretty much this, but moreover I kinda like both the concept of "it just gets bigger" and nearly complete transformations too, as long it's within reason. Although I guess it all depends on the Pokemon, what it's based on, and its theme. Say for example if a Pokemon is based on a caterpillar, then it'd make sense for it to completely transform into butterfly in evolution.

It smoothly flows from first to last, and while the the first may gain features in the middle that it loses in the final, it's still cohesive.

Much better than stuff like Tylocaust or every other "It's litten but bigger with more stripes and maybe some white or grey fur tufts" without needing to make it Bipedal just to be interesting. Also Fire/Ground lava pokemon is genius. I like Luchalitten but I would gladly accept this.
