Platinum was fucking great, HGSS was cool, comfiest OST across all the games, but DP should be completely ignored.

Platinum fixed a lot of D/P's problems, but not all of them. I'd say mid/high-tier.

HGSS was a reboot of Gen 2, which warrants a 10/10 score on its own, and on top of that it added a lot of new things and was in general a very high-quality remake. easily top-tier and also my faborite Pokemon game.

Gets shit on often because DP were bad, despite the general consensus on /vp/ being that Pt and HGSS are among the best pokemon games created.

For me, the new pokemon were lacking. There wasn't a large amount of them, the baby pokemon aren't exactly interesting, too many legendaries and a lot were cross generation evolutions. Which would be fine, if half of them weren't trade evolutions/unavailable until post-game. The few entirely new pokemon are easily forgettable, excluding a few.

But despite that, it was still a good generation. One of the best.

Diamond got me back into Pokemon and yet I hold nothing but disdain for it.

It's slow, it has some of the worst designs in the entire franchise, Sinnoh is a tedious region and it feels like a total slog. The only really enjoyable part for me was the underground stuff.

Platinum was better, and I'm glad I gave Sinnoh the second chance, but it didn't fix the main issue: that Sinnoh just wasn't a fun region.

I'm thankful it got me back into the franchise, and that I got to go back and play Emerald because of it, but the main trio are still my least favorite games in the franchise.

HGSS however are probably my favorite Pokemon games so the gen itself evens out.

Some good characters, but the games were poor overall. I don't like Gen 2 to begin with so those remakes were whatever to me. I enjoy physical/special split a lot. Unfortunely the gen brought us meme rocks too.

I think it's overall positive? Definetly better than V or II.

My favourite gen. It has so many amazing pokemon and great towns. Its atmosphere is so relaxed and comphy it makes it so much more enjoyable to play through it. The champion was amazing and I loved how ridiculous the evil team's plan was.

On the other hand, its dex is horribly small, the whole game, both in battles and outside, is horribly slow. It has several gimmicks that just make the experience less enjoyable (like the fog, really tall grass and how ridiculous crits were back then).

Overall, its an alright gen, probably not as good as gen V or III, but certainly better than I and VI, and maybe II.

Not my favorite gen or pokémon game. It's actually probably my least replayed of all gens.

I think it has a solid dex, and certainly holds some of my favorite pokémon of all time in it. The region was fine, if a little forgettable in my opinion. Nothing was terrible that I remember, it just did everything it needed to do, and did it just fine.

However, Gen IV has, in my honest opinion, the best story out of any gen to date.

Well, truthfully: -Platinum- has the best story of any main series pokémon game. DP is just OK, like most of the games.

But Platinum wasn't just a gigantic steroid injection onto the game, but the story as well. Cyrus is unquestionably the best pokémon villain in my mind, and I feel like an orphan in the streets of victorian England, waiting for the rich bastards at Gamefreak with my hands outstretched asking "Please sir, may I have Cyrus' return this time?", only to get spat on with each new gen, and caned brutally.

Gen 4 is only praised because of Gen 2's existence. Sinnoh is completely forgettable apart from Platinum. No one even likes Dawn either - very important.

Not best gen but definitely up there

Sluggishness of the two original games kind of ruined them, but every other title in Gen IV is excellent. HGSS are particularly good and this is from someone who considers Gen II one of the worst.

Pearl was my first game.
I have a lot of childhood memories with gen 4, particularly, so I can't help but love it no matter how many flaws it might have.
The night ost makes me nostalgic every time I listen to it.
