Also, Heracross as a Hercules beetle is the greatest thing ever made. See, the Hercules beetle is the strongest animal in the world, able to lift 850 times its own weight. And Mega Heracross' base Attack stat is 185! I don't know if this is the reason why, but the coincidence is too strong to pass up.

If you see Mega Heracross in the anime or some form of artwork, you can see that the shell opens up, revealing holes. This is why it gets Skill Link: so it can shoot things rapidly out of its holes like a gun does. Regular Heracross was given Pin Missile, Rock Blast, and Bullet Seed just for its Mega. And Skill Link really is amazing for it.
