There will likely be another drastic shift in Pokemon style once the next generation hits that age range, around 2022-2024. In other words, once Gen IX comes out, you will suddenly see a surge of hoenbabies being just as insufferable as genwunners are today, complaining about how the newer Pokemon "just don't feel like Pokemon" anymore, without being able to give a specific explanation for why.
By Gen XI and Gen XII, the children who grew up with Gen IX will be teens/young adults, and start overrunning 4chan with memes about how Pokemon Milk & Cereal are so much better than the garbage Pokemon games of old. Anyone who professes to like any of the games before Gen VIII will be branded as a die hard nostalgiafag.
