>>28125694I like Megas because they provide an existing Pokemon with a boost without turning them into a completely different Pokemon. I believe that, for some Pokemon, a temporary "form change" along those lines is a better solution to making them better than giving them an additional evolution whose appearance might not be in line with what fans of the original want (see: Rhyperior). This works well for Pokemon that already feel "complete" as a concept despite only being one or two stages, or for Pokemon who cannot evolve further.
Simply giving old Pokemon a new ability can work wonders, but it is also not particularly interesting. Some Mega designs fall flat, but for others they manage to take a Pokemon's existing traits and expand upon them in visually appealing ways. I believe that, while Game Freak may have stumbled a bit in some regards, there is a lot of potential inherent in the mechanic that I want them to explore and develop further.
Simply put, I don't think getting rid of Megas because there were a few stinkers is a rational reaction. Rather than throw the baby out with the bathwater, I would rather they try to refine and improve upon it in the future.
You, for whatever reason, don't like Megas. I can respect that. But I'm glad that Game Freak added them and look forward to seeing what they do with it in the future.
