ITT: Unpopular and controversial opinions about Pokémon

Gen 1 had the best pacing of all the games.

Gen 5 sprites are the most ugly shit and is in the same tier of ugly as Red/Blue sprites. I will never ever get the boner people have for gen 5 sprites.

90% of Unova Pokémon are straight up shit designs

ORAS was alright.

D/P/P was boring as hell, but had the most comfy region and music.

I think Sun and Moon is going ti dissapoint. The way people are hyping each other up is set for complete disaster here.

Never understood the whole "pacing" thing myself. You set it. I can only use one or two mons and get them high leveled and barrel through the game or level multiple mons up evenly.

HMs as roadblocks are good as long as you don't go full retard like Sinnoh (though I still like Sinnoh). It's much better than every route gate being blocked by "we're dancing for no reason" or "the power is out, come back later."

Roaming Legendaries are enjoyable. I find it fun tracking them down, whittling their HP, and throwing tons of Ultra Balls at them until I get it. It's a timesink, but there are a sizeable number of people who play bike simulator on this board, which is an even large timesink with less variety since you're on the same route at all times instead of running around the region.

The Safari Game is also enjoyable, especially RSE's Safari Game where you had a much larger control over the enemy Pokémon (Pokéblock throwing to fuck with escape rates based on tastes) than in Kanto or Hoenn. The fact that ORAS cut the Safari Game is one of its biggest sins, not as big as no Frontier but still really big.

Voltorb Flip is the best Game Corner game. It's a shame HGSS cut the GSC games in the northwest, true, but Voltorb Flip was a great replacement.

GB Sounds are overrated because they're inaccurate to how GSC actually sounded.

It would have been better if they only made Z and skipped ORAS than what we have now; we (maybe) would have gotten one good game in Gen 6 due to the polishing a third version always gets, as opposed to no good games in Gen 6.

Zoroark is a cooler Pokémon than Lucario, and it would have been more popular if Game Freak didn't fuck up its distribution so hard.

I skipped out on Pokken entirely for rosterfag reasons and nothing else, and consider this an okay thing to do.

However i think the pacing is about what goes in the game, specially when you consider that the Gyms are the main objective, Gen 1 had a nice mix of doing a sidestory while still keeping the gym being the priority. Gen 4 did this very well too for me

What do you mean by viable? I think the endgame/competitive stuff is garbage anyway. There is now way they can balance and design hundreds of pokemon for competitive play. It's mostly just surface level stuff and a few gimmicks.

XY's gym battle theme is among the best battle themes in the series.

The Safari Zone mechanics were garbage and I am glad BW1 onward got rid of them.

The Gen 6 EXP Share is the best addition since infinite TMs.

Delta Episode was the best mainline plot since BW1

HGSS' music is terrible compared to GSC's

Hoenn and Sinnoh are far and away the most interesting regions to explore.

ORAS was fine

The Gen 7 Pokemon designs aren't looking so good. Probably the worst batch so far.

RSE have the worst graphics in the series. FRLG look miles better.

Vanilluxe is good-looking and Klefki is well designed.

Serperior and Meganium are the best fully-evolved starters in their respective gens.

Double battles should be the norm.

The Fighting type was a mistake. Not a big mistake, but a mistake.

Dugtrio is awesome. It's Diglett that's dumb.

Minior is the best-looking Gen VII 'mon revealed so far, by a reasonable margin.

Every evil team except for Rocket is shit. Rocket is tolerable.

HMs aren't a bad thing.

You should not have to go out of your way to make the game less handholding. It should be opt-IN, not opt-OUT. For some reason Pokémon is fine if it does this, but other games aren't.

People who go out of their way to defend bad decisions in new games simply because they don't want to be seen as a genwunner should be purged from this board.

Sinnoh was a fantastic region and gen 4 as a whole were the best games.

Ice does not need buffing. (More offensive ice mons are needed, the type itself is fine)

The way Fairy was implemented is fucking awful. It's the most overpowered type now and you're not allowed to criticize it on /vp/ vp because if you do you're an edgy thirteen-year-old who wants his dragons back.

I hope Flygon never gets a mega.

Chesnaught is not a bad design.

Really it's not just about viability in battle. There are a ton of preexisting pokemon that could have a niche in single player but you either don't encounter it early enough or you won't encounter it at all.

Also many pokemon are just rehashes of other mons anyway. Bibarel, Diggersby, Talonflame, and I guess now Vikavolt are the only regional mons that weren't completely interchangeable with the rest of their archetype.

Can you seriously defend three fire/fighting starters in a row, with the likelihood of a fourth fire/fighting starter on the way?

Even if we had a thousand mons it wouldn't suddenly feel like a real world because the games have terrible worldbuilding.

I wish regional forms were introduced sooner. It could have stopped the Pokedex from being so bloated with fillermons.
