Look at fucking Johto, the only popular Pokemon aside from cross evos, starters, and legendaries are Heracross, Tyranitar, Houndoom, and Ampharos... For Unova, it's Haxorus, Chandelure, Hydreigon, Bisharp, and maybe Volcarona. It sucks but it's the truth.
Look at Kanto, Dragonite, Gengar, Alakazam, Gyarados, Lapras, Snorlax, Alakazam, Raichu, Ninetales, Nidoking, Eevee, Vaporeon, Flareon, Jolteon, Pikachu, Jigglypuff. Plus Kanto's less popular Pokemon are more recognizable than fucking Gen 2-6's less popular Pokemon.
Hoenn is the region with the second largest amount of popular Pokemon. Gardevoir, Absol, Aggron, Flygon, Milotic, Salamence, Metagross, Plusle, Minun.
