What's it about this game that makes it worse than XY? Just wondering, the original games were pretty cool to me and I'm deciding between the remake or XY.

no trainer customization but it's back in s/m so who cares
not much of a post game but neither does xy
story is pretty awful particularly the last part but again who cares, its pokemon

if you liked the original ruby sapphire then get the remakes, it has most of the stuff xy had anyway + new megas if you like playing online and a couple neat new features

and the new breeding area goes in a perfect loop and the iv checker is right there so you dont have to fly back and forth

No improvements to the graphics. In fact they're mostly worse because they copy the square tile layouts direct from RSE.

Plot felt pretty dull to me, can't put my finger on exactly why, though. Maybe I'm just burnt out from the same format over and over.

This. Besides, the general consensus is actually that ORAS>XY. The only reason people shit on it is because they're salty that the Battle Frontier isn't a compelling feature for kids anymore.

They're much better than XY by a long shot, especially since there's actual post-game content in finding legendaries and Delta Episode. Literally the only 'bad' thing about them is no Battle Frontier, but besides that it's a good, straight forward remake.

Yep.

Its not a bad game, just an average one, which is all the more frustrating because it could have been GOAT.

I do feel the story was at least a little better than RSE though; Aqua and Magma are still silly, but it feels a lot more tongue in cheek and their plans arent quite so retarded (but still pretty bad). Their redesigns help a lot too.

Beside the fact that it's a lazy remake that hardly adds anything new (and when it does it sucks at it), why would you want to play a game you've basically already played before instead of a new experience?

The elite 4 use different teams with Pokemon from later generations when you rematch them.
Gym Leaders can't be rematched though.

Yeah, it's better than XY, but that's really not saying much. Gen 6 overall is probably the worst (doesn't mean it's bad) gen, even though it made a huge amount of QoL changes, everything else suffered because of it.
