>>28177574>I question your attachment to the franchise when you're having these kind of problems, Mr. "True fan".Sorry but when did I say that I shared this problem? Next time I suggest not talking down to someone when you have poor reading comprehension. In any case it was and is still a common thing to see because of the lack of exposure.
>As many have said, a lot of people were familiar to some extent with all the gen 2 mons before the games were even out in the west due to video game magazines and later pokemon guidesNeedless to say back in the day they didn't exactly showcase each and every pokemon pre release unlike nowadays. And even older guides paraded things like starters, legendaries and Pokemon that evolved from previous generation Pokemon. That and not many people bought the guides as much as things like cards and such.
>Word of mouth is a powerful tool. You'd have a point if it weren't in the era where pokemon was dying down and was deemed "uncool" among most people. There's a reason why GSC didn't have nearly as much rumor surrounding them compared to RBY and we didn't have a repeat of pokegods to that degree.
>but back in the day pokemon was so in your face that if you were truly as attached to the franchise as you claim to be, you were bound to find out about the elusive rare pokemon that you can only catch in certain placesSee above, a large portion of Pokemon from Gen 2 weren't given any exposure across the entire franchise. Even in the anime Skarmory only had a single appearance in the Johto series but four in the Hoenn series. Same with Slugma, only a single appearance. However Magcargo had at least two.
I don't think you understand how little these Pokemon were shown off and how fast the fad died.
