Double that, for backsprites. Obviously, way too many to create by hand. And, obviously, way too many to all be in a game simultaneously. So how is it possible? These Spinda patterns must be randomly generated, right? But how do you randomly generate a sprite? And when the games jumped to 3D, how did they randomly generate models? It's perplexing, and I don't know enough about technology to begin to wrap my head around it.
