I hear you.

For me, it was Magnezone. Never really got him in the earlier games, except when I evolved a Magneton into one once in Pearl purely for dex completion before boxing him forever.

But then I caught a Magnemite in Alpha Sapphire and he ended up becoming my de-facto lead. He fried every mon in the ocean's depths while I was chasing Team Aqua and Kyogre. He finished Steven's Mega Metagross after surviving a crit switch-in Giga Impact. And he helped me catch Deoxys when Rayquaza fainted.

I have no idea what made me like this thing, I hadn't used it and remember not caring about its design. But it has somehow become one of my favourite pokemon ever, and its amazing competitively, I never make a team without one.

I fucking HATED gen 5 when it first released, and absolutely despised the 'ripoff' lines of gen 5, but after using some of the gen 5 'mons competitively, I've come to absolutely love this guy. In lower tiers he's a fucking monster with Bulk Up Guts Drain Punch shenanigans.

Didn't realize my fondness of him until recently playing through BW2 again.
