>>28218716Gen 1 favored some types over others. Fighting, ice, ghost and dragon were the more rare and generally hyped in that game as more unique. They focused on themes outside of type. The freezing and reseting nature of ice. The hardiness of fighting, status inflicting pokemon like ghosts and poisons and the sheer force of dragon.
Gen 2 played with the idea of gym leaders aspiring to become elite 4 by having koga shift, and retaining only 1 member. Again playing with the idea of powerful types and each one having a theme beyond.
Gen 3 was rumored to have used elite 4 from previous games but dropped them. Easily could have had lance, Karen, Lorelei but didn't for the disconnected from gen 1 and 2 reasons. It again played with the notion that some types were better or rarer than others.
Gen 4 did a massive fuck it to types. The fire type barely counted as fire and didn't have a thematic tone to its team at all other than "they all have a fire attack" It was different just to be different and give them someone "fun" to put in the end game. They hardly seem elite and more just like "we're the last trainers"
