I think what was great was how you fought things that weren't actually pokemon. This really should be implemented, imagine fighting massive Mechs like that Tyranitar Machine. Also bringing your own pokemon to get the weird ending was also really fun.

if there was a pokemon life simulator it wouldn't be about battles- that would be up to the trainer. it would be about
1. free time- pokemons aren't actually in the balls, the balls are teleportation devices and you actually have fun in your home enviorment
2. evolution- us trainers see it automaticly, but there actually lotsa preperation involved, probably with stuff like training or others- for example, a slowpoke needs to go fish before it can evolve
3. general life managment- social with other pokemons of the trainer, eating and diat, minigames
4. education - you don't really think those moves suddenly appear of thin air right? still its the trainer who decides if you need to learn them
5. relationship with the trainer- also getting traded and stuff. inb4 romance, but why not?

any more ideas?
