Live on the southeast coast? Hurricanes are your forte. Which also includes flash flooding.
Live more north? You get frozen weather.
Live in Hawaii? Avoid lava. And potentially tsunamis.
It's generally only national news when a regional disaster is either massive, or happens to a different region that's not used to it.
