There are only two 3d models I genuinely hate, and there of my favorite gen 1 pokemon (probably the only two I like from gen 1, desu)

Raichu and Vileplume.

They both just look too fucking fat in them. Alolan Raichu has replaced my love for the original with a better design (IMO) and a not chubby, hunched over look, so.. Yea, awesome.

Yeah, it didn't fit with the shitty flyer theme in Gen 5 but at least it looked good, gen 6's animation fits the theme but looks terrible as a result.
If it stayed of the ground and used it's shitty flying as an attacking animation, as the pokedex implies, it would be perfect.

The reason why no one has a problem with Gen V's Archeops sprite is that IT LOOKS GOOD. At the very least it looks cool. and makes it look slender and raptor-y and shit. It just looks good. Sprites were never meant to represent how the pokemon is actually fighting, just a representation of the pokemon itself.

The 3D sprite just makes it look goofy as fuck which okay, it might have been, but it's just not as appealing. And if it was meant to show how it actually fights it also fails because something that doesn't fly well but run would FIGHT ON THE FUCKING GROUND

That's only because the base frames in BW for the older Pokemon were directly rehashed from gen 4. They wouldn't bother to completely re-draw hitmontop of all Pokemon.

In fact, that sprite you posted is from DPP. His BW sprite uses the HGSS sprite.

Don't get me wrong, showing it being a clumsy fuck while flying is okay, but it should be shown when it tried using a flying type move or something. There is zero reason why it would always be in the air when it cannot fucking mantain itself like that without huge effort, it should fight low in the ground and then Yoshi jump or some shit when the situation needs it to.

I think Hitmontops 3D idle animation is great. It actually shows off what his fighting style is based on: Capoeira. And he still stands on his head to attack for most of his moves. But what pisses me off is that his coolest animation being the double spin roundhouse kick is only used for ONE move: low sweep.
