The lesser-known connection between X/Y and B2/W2 is Colress, who is traveling the world, looking to discover the "hidden potential" of Pokémon. In B2W2 this information was relatively meaningless, but in the context of X/Y, we know he is trying to learn more about Mega Evolution. I really hope he shows up again as a villain
(or Champion?) in Alola, having discovered Z moves. That would be the perfect way to properly utilize Colress, because he has thus far sadly been brushed over.
That, in a very general explanation, is how Gens 1/3, 2/4, and 5/6 correlate as being approximately at the same points in time.
Where does S/M fit, you say? We have no idea where S/M is going to take place, but we have three good guesses.
>Most likely:Set after Gen 6. Natural progression in the timeline. There's no obvious reason that would suggest it isn't chronologically next up.
>Less likely, but possible:Start of the timeline, alongside Gen 1 and 3. This would allow for the easiest cameos from Gen 1, and slot in naturally if Gen 7 also has a Gen 1 remake in store. Alternatively, at the same time as Gens 2, and 4. This still makes Gen 1 connection easy (remember, we're living in the age of Genwun pandering), while making it easier to slot in naturally if a Gen 4 remake is in store. So basically, it may be earlier in the timeline, if we're getting a remake this Gen.
(Note: Gen 6 proved this doesn't necessarily have to be true. X/Y and OR/AS weren't together in the timeline.)
>Unlikely:Anywhere else in the timeline. I can't see them making a game that predates Gen 1 (although it'd be a pleasant surprise), and there's no reason for Gen 7 to slot in with 5/6. Gen 6 only did because, as evident by Parfume Palace, and the Colress nods, it seems they wanted to pick up where B2W2 left off, but never got around to it properly. Possibly wanted to in Z, but alas.
