Is it like the sports arena where you can fight trainers every day to grind exp and money, or is it like the battle subway where the trainers parties are set to a certain level and you just do it for points and prestige?

It's the best place to grind exp in the game
And since it's also near the day care, it's the best place to speedlvl/train freshly hatched pokemon and access to the box
Plus it's near a town so you've got a pokecentre and a pokeshop
Add in the writs that increases new trainer presences and pokemon lcl's, gym trainers, E4, and the champion visiting, trainers giving good money, which can be increased with writs, and the rank system, AND trainers giving you money items like pearls and nuggets
It' the best place to grind period
