Dunno. I thought that old gens required grinding a lot but then I beat E4 in both Yellow and Crystal without much trouble (if you don't count that fucking Alakazam in Yellow).

This a million times this, especially if you chose charmander
INB4 someone says use Nidoran or Mankey,
Nidoran didn't learn double kick until way later and Mankey wasn't available in red that early.
Brock's pokemon had a shit special stat so unless you chose Squirtle or Bulbasaur, ember and confusion were your only options.

Elite four and Cynthia were brutal. All their pokemon were way over mine.

My autism dictates I battle every trainer available to me in a given area and I still was incredibly underleveled.

Bulbasaur was almost worse against Brock than Charmander. Its first level-up move was Leech Seed and it didn't get Vine Whip until 13. At least Ember hit Onix's shit Special stat and got STAB.

i dont even comprehend how stupid you guys are, defeating all the trainers gives you a fixed total number of exp, depending on your team size and to a smaller extend on the pokemon, your levels are pratically predetermined.

that being said from my experience gen 2 has the most grinding. if you get a 6mon team rather quickly you face the elite 4 with pokemon in their mid to late 30s. after the main story you have your team in their 50s so red is way to overleveled for you.

Not really. Took down Clair with just a Vaporeon and Amphardos on levels 38 or 39. I beat the E4 when my strongest Pokemon was like level 41 or 42. My team was balanced, though, with the lowest being 38 at that point. Shit, I even handicapped myself by not using items during battle and only putting health back to half between.

Does anyone use a whole new team to fight the Kanto gym leaders in S/G/C/SS/HG? Actually wasn't that bad grinding on Victory Road. A level 50 Staryu is my overall highest level pokemon now.

I'm not that anon, but it sounds like you do just overlevel one Poke. The scaled exp isn't an issue unless you're overlevelling one Pokemon. The scaled EXP was amazing for running a team of six evenly matched pokemon.

I usually run a team of 4 for battling. The scaled exp was ok for the main story but also a nightmare for getting your pokemon to level 100, which is what I do for every good mon that I raise.
