Snap was fun because you had a limited window for photographing any given event as you rode past it, and a limited ability to interact with the world during that time (rocks and bait) as well. You learned a little more about how the sequence of potential events unfolded with each pass, and every interaction with the world was a missed photo and vice/versa so you had to make everything count
This is "sit still and take a photo of a pokemon".
This game, even at its best, will never see you turn around to glimpse a Snorlax made of nearby rocks when viewed from JUST the right angle before they slipper out of view. It will never see a rare Pokemon appear for a photo op because you baited a Voltorb next to a cave and then pestered it into exploding.
But those are the things that make Pokemon Snap a good game.
