Basically, it used to be you used voluptuous to describe woman who was shapely. Then fetishists and/or overweight women with low self-esteem decided that instead of chubby, they want to be called voluptuous, and no one stopped them. Then it happened with curvy. And now you can see it happening with the word thick, but in an era where the concept of meme has become a meme.
In terms of etymology, I think spelling it with two Cs came from succ, but I was reading a book the week when that meme showed up, so I don't know what happened there.
Anyway, because of chubby and fat women coopting words, and the guys who are into fat chicks, AND the meta-meme culture we have today, it all combined into thick/thicc ranging anywhere between wide hips, large tits and ass, and thick thighs, to fat women.
In short, you're better off not thinking about it.
