Does this pretty much confirm that being "Normal type" just means you don't have anything special in your typing?

Pokemon are half normal just means that they aren't completely special. i.e.: a Normal/Fire Pokemon is a beast that couldn't quite make it to being completely Fire

It's not type as typing, type as a kind of code, ranking. Like if i mad a big ass spaceship called with a cannon called Odin and sent it among other smaller ships my enemies would call it a Type Titan: Odin.
T.N. is an experiment, a false Pokemon that is everything and nothing at the same time. So Type: Null.
