I started Y thinking that the story would be kinda shit, since pokemon stories are generally simple anyway. So, due to the games' having the language changing feature because of the world-wide release, I figured it would be funny to play the game in French, since it's based off of France and all. At first I could tell what was what pretty easily, the first choices are simple after all. But, once I got my first pokemon and checked the moves and all, I started to realize what I'd be in for.
I knew I wouldn't be able to know what move was what. So if a pokemon wanted to learn a new move, I wouldn't really know what it was until it learned it and I tested it out for myself. Also, considering the games are full of fetch quests, I figured if anyone told me to go somewhere, there's no way I would even know where they're asking me to go. Things like that started really daunting on me until I got to the very first patch of grass, found a shiny zigzagoon on my first encounter, and caught it. Despite everyone telling me to just trade them the Zigzaton, restart in english, and then trade back, I took it as a sign and ended up beating the entire game in french.
I named it Master Shifu and never evolved it. Unfortunately, although I kept it on my team, (it's level 61 now) it wasn't really useful for much since it had friggin' Gluttony. But I eventually got an ability capsule for it, so it's all good.
