No but really in Pokemon's current state even the virtual console remakes only sold up to 2mill copies.
These days no one's going to pay the $200 entry fee over a fit of nostalgia to play a 20 year old game when they could just emulate the thing over their phone.
Also, it just opens another argument where best selling=/=most popular and "Gen 1/2 is all I know and where I quit in the franchise, it's all I remember as a kid, so they must be the best!" the way old people praise how playing with a stick and a hoop was the way to grow up.
With this in mind, Nintendo isn't marketing the remakes to nostalgiafags who made the series popular, just the current playerbase. And the current playerbase don't all agree that it's the most popular.
