Alola has four island, meaning it's entirely possible we're still getting two gyms per island. As much as SM seems to be trying to shake up the status quo, I honestly doubt they'd go so far as to not only remove the gyms, but also the League from the games entirely. We're not talking about some post-game battle tower or anything here, these are things that have been at the core of pokemon games from the very beginning.
Mind you, if the time comes and they have removed gyms, I'll be right with you over on the disappointment seat, because I've always loved seeing what crazy new designs came with each gym leader.

Personally, I'm just really curious to see where the storyline goes with these Ultrabeasts. I don't feel like any pokemon game is a BAD game, so I doubt I'll be too badly disappointed by the actual gameplay itself.
