There was another episode in the first half of the season, I think it was the one with Wizardmon's ghost, which focused more on the old characters, with the new ones being sidelined. It was amazing how, suddenly, the plot was interesting, the pacing was much better, and everything felt congruent.
Basically, whenever the 02 cast was ignored, the quality improved. 02 was a mistake.
