Holy SHIT leveling up for the E4 in these games are a fucking chore. I'll take the Gen 6 Exp Share over the amount of grinding I have to do in Kanto, any day. I didn't have the patience, I just went in with a bunch of potions/revives and barreled through. How do you guys do it?

I can grind all day and it's not a challenge. Level fixing is pretty simple but how they make E4 difficult is by giving not shit mons with not shit moves. For example, the Fighting type E4 member from Unova was a challenge because he had strong mons with good moves. Drake from Hoenn was a breeze because most of his mons were NFEs and their strongest move was 60BP.

Grinding isn't hard, it's boring. Battling the E4 underleveled is just a matter of having the right amount of potions/revives, but to get there I've got to spend all of this time grinding. I've played FRLG befote but never beat it, now I remember why. Grinding this much isn't hard, but it isn't fun. Do you guys really enjoy it?

You really don't have to grind if you fought every trainer.

Your rival's highest level is 63. You can typically beat the elite four if all of your Pokemon are at least level 45.

OP here, I was a johtobaby and my first game was Gold and I just went through with my Feraligtr. The way I play now is keeping an evenly leveled team of 6, with the roster constantly roating whenever I see a new Pokémon I want. Everytime I face a new gym I probably have 1-3 new Pokémon on my team and in between I'm always catching and evolving Pokémon for the dex. To everyone else, the Gen 6 Exp Share is broken because of the way they play, but for me it was perfect because the way I play is with an almost constantly rotating roster. Because of that I'm always constantly having to level up low-leveled wild mons. I beat the E4, I just wished I could've been on the same level without having to grind the same Pokémon over and over with 1 Exp Share to spare

This thread is kind of amazing. I never knew there were people bad enough at Pokémon to have that much trouble with Kanto E4.

I played both Blue and Fire Red when they came out so I can't remember for shit if I was underleveled or not when I got to the E4, but I'm pretty sure I never deliberately stopped to grind.

Nowadays I play most pokémon games underleveled, it's more fun and challenging that way. It's just a matter of team building.

Fighting every trainer and having a somewhat decent team composition have always been more than enough.

I rotate my team since I first played Gen V. I do pretty much the same as you, change at least half my team for every gym. But I don't grind to train them, I change right after a Gym, then just battle every single trainer, explore every inch avaliable and don't run from battles. Then face next gym at whatever level I reached it.

Near the end some pokémon have bocome mainstays, others have entered my team often enough to not be too far behind, and with the types of the E4 in mind, I make my victory road + E4 team.

Venusaur, Aerodactyl, Hitmonchan, Magmar, Nidoking, Slowbro in their early/mid 40's. Like I said in the OP, I beat the E4. I just don't like using so many potions/revives.

I've also used Snorlax, Dodrio, Ninetales, Nidoqueen, Machoke, Jolteon, Primeape, Persian, Dugtrio, Pidgeotto, Ratticate, Fearow, Beedrill and Butterfree in my teams as I played through.

Of course all Pokémon games are pretty easy, but XY is easier than the games that came above it due to both the AI and even the E4 not having full teams.
Other recent games that had gym leaders and E4 with not full teams and movesets had rematch options where they had full teams, well put together movesets and even held items.

I share your play style. I enjoy the collection, but save the evolving til AFTER your first E4 run. Keep a core 6 thru the first full play through, then swap out 1-4 as you wish to level assorted mons as you please. Honestly, once u beat the 4 once, I don't see how you dont sweep with at max 2 mons after.

Tl; Dr - I share your play style and your frustrations with the grinding.. But the reason you have trouble with E4 is beyond me

You're playing the game wrong. You pick the best 6 pokemon through your journey and by the time you get to the elite 4 they are the correct level. Then you make a whole new team and beat the elite 4 again. The best part is being stuck with a shit pokemon but it's the only one that is high level enough to take to the elite 4. The second best part is having only 4 or 5 pokemon that are ready to take on the elite 4 so the last slots are just low level HM slaves.

Grinding is for after the elite 4.

The whole thing that makes it "hard" is that your under levelled not that it's been thought out. In other words you need the bare minimum requirements stat wise to match up.

And here I thought /vp/ only had casuals. Don't give up and don't forget that you don't need to be at the same levels as the NPCs, if anything grinding that far will only make the game much easier. Being a few levels under everyone isn't as much of a problem as you think.

Gracias anon! My plan is I'm gonna play through Leafgreen, transfer all the mons to HG. Play through HGSS, transfer all the mons to ORAS. Play through, and transfer them to SM and/or DPP remakes. Trying to have the ultimate rotatiobro experience, Ash Ketchum style. Debating whether to skip BWBW2/XY or wait for remakes.

It's more like playing Mario and trying to do all kinds of fancy jumps all the time, then failing half of them and saying that the game is hard. It's just a slightly more difficult way to play, it isn't any wrong at all.

But to suggest OP didn't put himself in this situation by trying to play collector PRE E4 is nothing short of broken.

As previous poster said, if you want to constantly retool your team, you can't blame the game for the player having to train the mon up to the trainers standards

That is always an option. I've done that but I don't complain about the grinding I have to do because I'm not a retard. I have made a brand new team of 6 fresh hatched pokemon in FRLG. I had to grind obviously but it fun and I had a great team for the elite 4. You can even get traded pokemon which get boosted XP. I even leveled my pokemon higher than needed because I don't use items in the elite 4.

Seriously, this is a kid's game. If you are struggling you are doing it wrong.

I honestly like grinding. I enjoy setting loose my beasts of war on unsuspecting trainers. You could use low level pokemon and strategy. I prefer brute force.

My biggest problem with pokemon.

I wanna rematch ALL trainers and Leaders every time I walk by.

Grinding random encounters gets tiresome without actually hunting a mon.
