Why the fuck does everyone get shiny Pokemon?

I haven't encountered a single Shiny Pokemon since I started playing 13 years ago.

I've been play since the beginning and didn't get a shiny until X and that was only because me and my roommates did a breeding challenge to see who could hatch a shiny first.

I am of the opinion that shinies don't 'count' unless I find them in the wild at 1/8192 chance through normal gameplay (for me, not gonna judge others of course)

So, I don't breed or hunt for shinies myself. I've gotten 2 so far in my lifetime, a Spearow in gen 3 and Weepinbell in Gen 4

It's all just luck, or ridiculous dedication.

I ran into a shiny Starly in Platinum, gave it to my friend because it happened to be on his birthday and he loved Starly.

My second was I hatched a shiny Trubbish on my second egg, I was only breeding for a female.

My S/O has had multiple shinies, but I'm pretty sure she spent like 15+ hours hatching them. I always wanted to try breeding for shinies but honestly I'm really, really lazy and get bored of hatching eggs.

Me and my brother used to play emerald together and I found a shiny raquazya. Keep in mind I didn't know wha a shiny was at the time. He tried telling me it is glitches and could break my game if I caught it. I caught it anyways (he didn't want me to have a shiny because he didn't have one) and still use it today

I only got my first shiny, and my favorite mon, Hoppip, in XY in a horde. I was on the bus when it happened too. Just imagine a 20 something staring at his 3DS yelling "Oh Shit!". It must have been pretty cringey to onlookers, but fuck them. I evolved it, and now use my qt shiny Jumpluff online with SunnyDay/Chlorrophyll/U-Turn shenanigens.
